Why analytical professionals get stuck differently

Analytically minded people are used to solving problems through the head. That makes them valuable and vulnerable in a specific way. When stress, burnout or stalled collaboration arises, the analyst does what he always did: think harder. Analyse more. Better understand why it isn't working.

But some processes don't respond to analysis. Relationships. Trust. Burnout. Grief. Collaboration that stalls. These require something different: contact with what is really going on in oneself and in the system. That is where I come in.

I know your world from the inside out

I am an engineer myself, graduated from Delft University of Technology in 2001. I know the culture of technical organisations. The directness, the focus on results, the preference for facts over feelings. The way smart people solve problems by thinking harder. And I know exactly where that stops working, because I have walked that path myself. From an analyst who tried to understand and control everything, to someone who learned how thinking and feeling can strengthen each other.

That is precisely what I help engineers, leaders and technically trained professionals discover.

Coaching questions:

  • Why do I keep getting stuck in the same patterns, even though I try so hard to do things differently?
  • I often feel tired, empty or restless. How do I reconnect with myself?
  • I struggle to set boundaries. Why is it so difficult and how can I change that?
  • I am always taking care of others. How can I start putting myself first?
  • I know what I should do, but something inside me keeps holding me back. How do I break through that?
  • I want to grow, but my insecurity gets in the way. How do I address this?
  • I find it hard to switch off and I bring my work home with me. How do I let go of this?

What I offer:

  • Individual coaching: For the professional who gets stuck. But also for those who simply want to grow. Focused on restoring the connection between head and feeling, on sustainable employability and on becoming the professional or leader you actually want to be.

what can you

Expect?

My approach is systemic, a method that looks beyond individual behaviour and explores what is happening in the whole. Patterns in teams, loyalties that operate unconsciously, the history of a department or organisation.

That may sound abstract. In practice it is concrete and recognisable, even for people who are used to thinking in models and systems. I translate systemic insights into the language of the engineer. No vague concepts, but clear connections. No judgement, but understanding of what is happening and why.

If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.

Who is Marieke?

Marieke de Zwaan (1976) graduated as an engineer from Delft University of Technology in 2001 and subsequently worked as an architect for various international companies. For ten years she travelled the world with her husband and three sons, living in the United States, Australia and Brazil. That international experience gave her a sharp eye for intercultural dynamics, how culture shapes the way people collaborate, communicate and get stuck.

Along the way she transformed from chronic illness, burnout and migraine, to optimal vitality by learning to look differently. She discovered that the key lies in the connection between head and feeling, between what you think and what your body is telling you. That insight forms the foundation of her work as a systemic coach for engineers, beta thinkers and analytically minded professionals, people who get far with their heads and get stuck at precisely the point where analysis stops working.

Since 2012 she has guided professionals and leaders through personal and professional challenges, individually and in teams. She is registered with NOBCO and EMMC, works as a business coach with Yet and collaborates as a migraine coach with neurologist Wardell Amerika via PACEA..

An absent employee costs an average of €400 per day

Why in-house coaching pays off

An absent employee costs an average of €400 per day. In cases of psychological absence — which lasts an average of 161 days costs can rise to over €64,000 per employee per year. These are direct costs, excluding productivity loss, increased pressure on colleagues and the impact on organisational culture.
In-house coaching is an investment in prevention. For 12–16 hours per month, you get structural support that prevents absence, increases job satisfaction and strengthens loyalty. On an annual basis, an investment between €25,200 and €33,600.

what others

Say

My question was how to maintain inner calm in a dynamic and demanding work environment. After working with Marieke, I found my answers — and as a result, my decision-making has become much more considered. Marieke adapts perfectly to what you need in that moment. Especially when you yourself are not yet clear on what needs to change.

NICK WATERLOO

Marieke!! She is much more than a coach. When I recently moved to the Netherlands, the adaptation process was not easy, and meeting her on this difficult path was my best chance. She will guide you to heal yourself and find your own answers. Sometimes all you need is to talk — and she's really good at that. She understands you, encourages you and inspires you.

EMRE BASTÜRK

After my divorce I came to Marieke, with the goal of gaining more energy as a working mother of two. On both a physical and psychological level, Marieke gave me insights that helped me enormously on my way back up. Marieke is highly professional and skilled across all the different areas she works with. Highly recommended!

JORIEN SCHAAF

It was wonderful to be heard by someone who truly understands what it means to live with chronic illness. I received many valuable insights. What I appreciated most is that Marieke does not follow a set protocol, but looks at the full picture and guides you to find your own answers.

anouk willems

I reached out for coaching because I was overwhelmed by personal and professional issues at the same time. My energy was draining, I couldn't concentrate and I even wondered if I was heading towards a burnout. Through the process, Marieke helped me step back and see the full picture. I realised I didn't have to solve everything at once. Instead, I could let go of certain things, choose a different route and refocus on what truly represents me and my core values. I can now concentrate better and feel more clarity about my next steps. I would definitely recommend working with her.

sanjay dinker

Marieke supported me during a time when I struggled with the lack of influence I had within the company. I felt my efforts were not translating into concrete change. Although I feel I sought this support too late, the conversations and the shift in perspective did a great deal of good. I can now listen to my feelings, accept them and work with them. Thank you.

What I achieved during the coaching process still regularly helps me to 'read' experiences differently. What stayed with me most were not the answers, but the seemingly simple questions. Marieke reads the room and the people in it with remarkable sharpness. She helped me experience that my body gives more honest signals than words and that awareness begins with observation. Now I often sense surprisingly quickly whether something truly fits me or not.

gerben aarts

With her life experience, calm presence and inner strength, Marieke earned my trust. The challenges I faced in daily life were given a different perspective — one that led to clarifying and eye-opening moments. Marieke is a professional coach who brings her subject matter with genuine passion and conviction.

DORIEN KOOIJMAN

Marieke knows more than her subject — she helps you live healthier in a pleasant and achievable way. A better coach than Marieke is not easy to find!

anneke ypma

The reason I started a coaching journey with Marieke was fatigue and weight gain. The process was concrete and not at all vague. I quickly experienced more energy and felt much more comfortable in my own skin.

rob vrins

The way Marieke works — non-judgmental, careful and with an open attitude — gave me the space and safety to do my own exploration. The systemic exercises brought me valuable insights and experiences. I felt seen and supported.
